First Steps To Try Archery
Archery is an activity that can be enjoyed by participants of all ages, abilities, individuals and families alike, whether you shoot for pleasure or wish to enter tournaments.
The club welcomes anyone interested in trying archery for the first time, or anyone wanting to re-discover their archery skills. The club has a friendly atmosphere and our members enjoy sharing all aspects of the sport together.
The Castle Archers is primarily a target archery club. This is one of the most popular forms of archery and involves of shooting a given number of arrows, known as a round, at targets. It takes place outside in the summer over distances of up to 100yards, and indoors in the winter distances up to 25m. Target Archery is current featured as an Olympic sport.

Come and try archery... Beginners' Courses

Course participants deciding to join "The Castle Archers" archery club, may, (for a nominal fee), continue to use the club equipment. Archery equipment is widely available for purchase from a wide variety of suppliers throughout the UK, and when you're ready to purchase your own, our experienced archers can help you choose the correct kit to suite your physique and strength. Hiring archery equipment can also be a useful alternative rather than committing to a purchase right away, therefore hiring new bows and equipment from certain manufacturers can be the way forward.
If you have never shot an arrow before and are unsure if you’ll like archery and therefore would like just try before starting the beginners course. We run "Have-A-Go" sessions for groups
Designed and developed to suit candidates of all ages and those with special needs, our ever-popular Beginners' Courses are held throughout the year.
The course consists of 5 sessions held over a 5-week period when all the basic principles of archery, including safety, are covered.
Our Archery GB (GNAS) qualified coaches, together with experienced senior archers, run the courses, and all necessary equipment is provided by the club; all that participants need do is to attend.
Beginners' Courses run in tandem with our club meetings on Sundays and Fridays and during the final session participants will be assessed on the basic rules and safety aspects of the sport.
